Monday Miles - First Post

Although I've tried blogging in the past and it came up as a seeming failure. I believe that the true problem was that there was no end goal. Being an entirely logical person, I believe I need the goal at the end of the tunnel. This doesn't appear in most activities in life, however, that does not mean that I cannot make it true for the activities that I personally initiate.

This will be one activity with an ending goal. I cannot set final goals timewise yet, because at the moment I am not sure what I am capable of running. So to start with, my only goal is to become faster at the mile.

I expect that I can go out right now and run a sub 10 minute mile. Not that it is a huge accomplishment, since my PR from high school is a 5:53 when I wasn't at my peak. I believe ultimately I could have run down near 5:30 if I had run a mile race the previous uninjured season. I want that feeling again--the feeling of being fast.

What does Monday Miles consist of? Well I'm not entirely sure about all of the details yet, but it will come down to Mile time trials on Mondays...perhaps every Monday or perhaps every other Monday. I envision this as a lone quest but I may take on partners, competitors, or training buddies at some point in the future.

Monday Miles starts tomorrow with a 1 mile time trial on the local high school track in the afternoon. Armed with running shoes and a stop watch, I will set the bar tomorrow. I should be able to draw up a goal worksheet and training plan based on that first time.
